Sony Reveals VR Headset “Project Morpheus”

Last night at a special briefing, Sony unveiled their answer to the Oculus Rift called Project Morpheus.

The virtual reality headset is the result of three years of research and development and the prototype shown includes lots of familiar Sony and VR tech. The Playstation Move was heavily featured as Sony emphasized six degrees of motion tracking. The headset used the same tracking tech found in the DualShock 4 and the PS4 camera.

Sony’s President said that they have a tremendous amount of respect for other people in the VR space like Oculus and Valve, and said much of their recent work is due to the feedback from press about their offerings.

The specs of Morpheus include a 1080p display with a 90 degree field of view. It uses 1000Hz polling, the same rate as most gaming mice, and tracks in a three-axis environment. The PS4 camera will track the headset like it tracks PS Move controllers.

If you have friends over while using Morpheus, they’ll be able to see a more traditional video image on your TV while you play with the headset. So what about games? So far only EVE: Valkyrie and special build of Thief from Square Enix have been announced, but with the vast library Playstation has at their disposal, you can only imagine the possibilities.

Rockstar Games Sued Over GTA 5 “Mob Wives” Character

A former star of the VH1 reality show “Mob Wives,” Karen Gravano claims that Rockstar used her image and life story in Grand Theft Auto 5 without her permission. She is so tore up about it, she wants $40 million dollars in compensation and punitive damages.

The character she is referring to is Antonia Bottino, a character you meeting during a random encounter mission called “Burial.” You find her about to be buried alive when she reveals that she is the daughter of retired Gambetti crime family boss Sammy Bottino, who entered witness protection after quitting his gangster ways as part of a plea bargain.

Gravano’s real life story is very similar, as her father was part of the Gambino crime family, Sammy Gravano who also entered witness protection after a plea deal. According to papers filed in the Manhattan Supreme Court, “Notwithstanding the fact that plaintiff has the utmost respect for the writers and creators of Grand Theft Auto V video game…her story is unique and is hers to tell,” according to papers filed in the Manhattan Supreme Court.

She plans to tell that story with a new book deal, something she alleges Rockstar could have licensed, “with relative ease, which may have [averted] this action.”

He said, “We will focus exclusively on content delivered digitally.”

He explained, “While I’m deeply proud of what we’ve accomplished together, my passion has turned to making a different kind of game than we’ve done before. In his message he also recounted the iconic characters and settings he and his team created. “We built Rapture and Columbia, the Von Braun and The Rickenbacker, the Freedom Fortress and some of the nastiest basements a SWAT team ever set foot into. Cheaper Xbox One Coming 2014?

There have been numerous leaks coming from Microsoft about what is happening with Xbox in 2014 and beyond.

For starters, there was talk of a 1TB White model of Xbox One. The sleek white version was only previously available to Xbox staff members. Another report comes from VG247, who claims a “well-respected source” told them Microsoft has been briefing publishers about a new, cheaper model of Xbox One that is going to be coming out later this year.

Other rumors say this model will not have a disc drive, that it will feature bluetooth technology, and that it is coming in October at price point that will be competitive with the PS4.

There are also rumors from earlier this week that say Halo 2: Anniversary Edition is coming to Xbox One and buying it will give you access to the Halo 5 beta. There is also talk Crackdown 3series is coming in 2016.

Xbox One: Thoughts about the Reveal

Unless you are living under a rock you heard about the reveal of Microsoft’s new console, the Xbox One. I am hesitant to call it a gaming console because during their reveal event, Microsoft focused on home entertainment as opposed to video games. This has quite a few fans up in arms over what we will truly be able to expect from the device. I spoke at length, on several different shows about my feelings about the new Xbox.

To say I don’t have an opinion, is pretty far off base. But if you are looking for me to drag Microsoft through the mud, best find yourself another blog to read or watch.

First, some details on the device:

He’s joined this week by his hardened crew of “Indie” Jeff Mattas, the Escapist’s Andrea Rene, and Double Jump’s Christian Spicer. Their destination: The fabled isle of Xbox One. The team discusses Tuesday’s reveal event, what we know about the new console, and dive into the pile of unknowns and what-if’s. After discussing the hardware, features, and rumors, everyone discusses reader reaction and how the Xbox One will fare against stiff competition from Sony and Nintendo. The show ends with some non-Xbox related Finishing Moves.

The bottom line: We won’t know the full picture on Xbox One or PS4 until after E3.
