Catch me on GameStop TV!

Today, you can walk in to almost any GameStop location across the U.S. (there are over 4,000!) and see me co-hosting GameStop TV! I’m super excited to be part of the GameStop team and look forward to bring you guys information about the biggest games coming out every year.

I love video games and have many memories buying games at GameStop growing up, so this is very big honor for me. Big thank you to the team at GameStop for giving me a chance to talk about what I love, and I look forward to lots of great episodes 🙂

Sunset Overdrive: “Tony Hawk with Guns”

There have been many takes on the Apocalypse and equally as many on the post-Apocalypse. Quite frankly, I’m getting tired of it. How many times can I run across a barren wasteland, shoot zombies, or scavenge for items? Good thing the folks at Insomniac Games feel the same way, despite having their own Resistance version of the end times. What they’ve done inSunset Overdrive with its “Awesomepocalypse” is surprisingly refreshing

PANEL: What You can Do to End Bile and Hatred in Games Culture

Where: Albatross Theatre 7:30 – 8:30 p.m.

People from every race, religion, gender and sexuality play games. It is in many ways the most universal pastime of human culture, other than eating and sleeping. Why, then, has the culture surrounding video games in particular become so vitriolic? Why is such a beautiful medium marred by hatred? We’ll investigate the possible source of the bile in this panel, but more importantly we’ll talk about how to limit it in your own experiences. It’s not possible to just put your head in the sand and “don’t read the comments” anymore. We can change the discussion. We can do our part to limit anger, resentment, racism, homo- and transphobia, as well as sexism in gaming culture. Here’s how.

PANELISTS:

Greg Tito [Editor in Chief, The Escapist], Bob Chipman [Video Contributor, The Escapist], Evan Narcisse [Editor, Kotaku], Janelle Bonanno [Editor in Chief, GameFront], Andrew Yoon [Editor in Chief, Shack News], Andrea Rene [Escapist News Now, The Escapist], Andre Meadows [Black Nerd]

PANEL: IGN Game Scoop! Live Podcast

Where: Albatross Theatre 10:30 p.m. – 11:30 p.m.

Join IGN editors (and The Escapist’s Andrea) as they discuss the latest and greatest video game news. Get your questions answered about the PS4, Xbox One, and the Gameboy Color. There will be yelling. (It’ll probably be Greg.)

PANELISTS:

Greg Miller [Host, The Loudmouth, IGN], Daemon Hatfield [Host, The Beauty, IGN], Mitch Dyer [Editor, The Canadian, IGN], Marty Sliva [Editor, The Beard, IGN], Andrea Rene [Host, The Smart One, The Escapist]

Saturday April 12th, 2014

PANEL: Console Launches: A Post Mortem

Where: Condor Theatre, 9:30 p.m. – 10:30 p.m.

A lighthearted look at the release of the next generation of consoles from the folks that were on the front line.

PANELISTS:

Kevin Dent [CEO, Tiswaz Entertainment], Andrea Rene [Senior Producer, The Escapist], Aubrey Norris [Director of PR and Marketing, Deep Silver], Larry Hryb/Major Nelson [Channel Director, Xbox]

Sunday April 13th, 2014

PANEL: Royal Rumble on the N64! 30 Players Live!

Where: Albatross Theatre 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

Retro gaming throwback? An argument for the efficacy of local multiplayer? Or just an excuse to get 30 of the coolest people we know in one room to play a wrestling game and yell at each other? No matter how you slice it, it’s a live play through of the Royal Rumble in a classic THQ game on Nintendo 64. There will be thrills. There will be chills. There will be spills. Come cheer for the faces, boo the heels, and marvel at the 15+ unannounced special guests. LIVE, only at PAX East.

PANELISTS:

Aaron Trites [Harmonix], Eric Pope [Harmonix], Abbie Heppe [Respawn Entertainment], Alex Navarro [Giant Bomb], Andrea Rene [The Escapist], Bobby Loertscher [Zen Studios], Dave Lang [Iron Galaxy Studios], Eric Neustadter [Xbox], Jeff Gerstmann [Giant Bomb], Jeff Green [AARP], John Drake [Harmonix], Nick Chester [Harmonix], Pat Baer [Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre], Phil Tibitoski [Young Horses], Rich Gallup [Disruptor Beam], Jon Carnage [Twitch], Sean Baptiste [Fire Hose Games], 15 Special Guests TBA

If you will be at PAX in Boston come by and say hi! If you see me on the show floor let’s high five or fist bump! Don’t forget to follow me on Twitter for lots of shenanigans @andrearene

Batman: Arkham Knight Coming Fall 2014

Warner Bros. revealed the next installment in the Arkham franchise: Batman Arkham Knight. Developed by Rocksteady Studios, the powerhouse developer behind Arkham Asylum and Arkham City, comes the next phase for the caped crusader.

According to Game Informer, “Rocksteady is hoping to raise the bar even higher on what will be its final Arkham game. Set after the events of Arkham City, Batman: Arkham Knight may just end the Dark Knight’s journey.”

And yes, you get to drive the Batmobile. The city map will be, “An entirely new area of Gotham City, far larger than Arkham City, [it] has much wider streets to accommodate the new driving gameplay that is designed to integrate smoothly with Batman’s gliding and grappling traversal.”

Villains you can expect to see include Two-Face, Penguin, Scarecrow, and of course, Harley Quinn.

Arkham Knight will be coming Fall 2014 to PC, Playstation 4, and Xbox One.

Xbox One: Thoughts about the Reveal

Unless you are living under a rock you heard about the reveal of Microsoft’s new console, the Xbox One. I am hesitant to call it a gaming console because during their reveal event, Microsoft focused on home entertainment as opposed to video games. This has quite a few fans up in arms over what we will truly be able to expect from the device. I spoke at length, on several different shows about my feelings about the new Xbox.

To say I don’t have an opinion, is pretty far off base. But if you are looking for me to drag Microsoft through the mud, best find yourself another blog to read or watch.

First, some details on the device:

GameTrailer’s Bonus Round:

The Bonus Round guests Andrea Rene, Garnett Lee, and Alex Abrecht along with host Geoff Keighley highlight the memorable moments and missteps of the Microsoft Press Conference.

Smosh Games Gamer Nation:

I join Lasercorn, The Jovenshire, and Sohinki talking about Microsoft’s Xbox One reveal:

Weekend Confirmed:

Jeff Cannata is a man on an island (a Hawaiian one, that is), which leaves host Garnett Lee to captain the S.S. Weekend Confirmed alone. He’s joined this week by his hardened crew of “Indie” Jeff Mattas, the Escapist’s Andrea Rene, and Double Jump’s Christian Spicer. Their destination: The fabled isle of Xbox One. The team discusses Tuesday’s reveal event, what we know about the new console, and dive into the pile of unknowns and what-if’s. After discussing the hardware, features, and rumors, everyone discusses reader reaction and how the Xbox One will fare against stiff competition from Sony and Nintendo. The show ends with some non-Xbox related Finishing Moves.

The bottom line: We won’t know the full picture on Xbox One or PS4 until after E3.

Be sure to subscribe to my new show on The Escapist for all my E3 coverage and for your chance to win a $100 GameStop gift card!
